Here is a checklist of questions you should be asking of your Cosmetic Practitioner to ensure that you get the highest quality treatment.

What are your qualifications?

Only certain medical professionals are allowed to carry out non-surgical cosmetic treatments such as botox, fillers, chemical peels, medical micro-needling, IPL, Laser and Radiofrequency treatments. Before you have any kind of cosmetic treatment you should ensure that your Clinician is properly trained and attends regular refresher courses to keep up to date. Only Doctors and Nurses (and some dentists) are qualified to do treatments such as botox and fillers. At The Skin Clinic highly trained medical professionals carry out all treatments. No treatments are carried out by beauty therapists. We believe that non-surgical treatments are medical treatments and that they should be undertaken by Doctors and Nurses only. All of our clinicians have many years experience. In addition Dr Johanna Ward, our Medical Director, is a National Trainer in Botox and Fillers for other medical professionals and is highly regarded in the field of medical aesthetics.

What products does the clinic use?

Good clinics should use FDA or CE certified injectables and should be able to show you the range of injectables that they use. At The Skin Clinic we use botox that is from the most reputable distributors in the UK with many years of research and clinical data behind them. We use Azzalure distributed by Galderma and Botox by Allergan for our wrinkle relaxation injections and use only CE certified dermal fillers such as Juvederm, Restylane and Teosyal. Our Cosmeceutical ranges are all the leaders in their field and are backed by many years of scientific research and commercial experience. We use the best known brands of Cosmeceutics such as Obagi Medical, SkinCeuticals, Medik8, Neostrata and Image and receive regular and ongoing training from these suppliers to ensure that we are as up to date as possible.

Are your products in date and genuine?

All cosmetic products have a use by or expiry date to ensure patient safety. Your Clinician should be happy to show you the product and demonstrate that the product is within its recommended expiry date.

Are all your treatments that involve needles single use only?

It is very important to ensure that all non-surgical cosmetic treatments are done with single use needles or sharps to avoid the transmission of blood borne disease. Needles or sharps must never be reused. Ask your clinician to show you the product that they are going to use, ask them to open it and dispose of it in front of you. All products should be disposed of in a sharps bin after use.

How many treatments has your Clinician has carried out?

The non-surgical industry is poorly regulated so to ensure you are in safe hands ask your clinician how many treatments they have done before. Always pay for the best treatments and the most experienced practitioner. It never pays off to take short cuts when it comes to your body and face. At The Skin Clinic all our clinicians are highly experienced in the filed of non-surgical aesthetics and are dedicated cosmetic practitioners. When is your clinic open?

For your peace of mind it is important to know the opening times of the clinic and know how to contact your clinician if you have any concerns or need any post care advice. At The Skin Clinic we are open 5-6 days a week and there is always a Doctor or Nurse available to answer any of your queries. If we cant speak to you immediately we will get back to you as soon as we can. Out of hours you can leave a message on the clinic answer phone and it will be passed on to our Medical Director Dr Ward who will get back to you asap.
