Obagi and advanced skin products
Obagi NuDerm is a clinically proven, prescription only skin care regime that can transform your skin, from within. The range was designed and patented by world renowned Dr Zein Obagi, a Consultant Dermatologist. NuDerm was designed for all skin types to tackle the issues of hyperpigmentation, uneven skin tone, sun damage, fine lines and wrinkles.
NuDerm contains several active ingredients, the most important of which are hydroquinone (4%) and tretinoin. Hydroquinone acts to suppress the cells in the skin responsible for pigmentation (melanocytes) and helps fade areas of skin with overactivity of pigment (melanin) eg. melasma, freckles, sun spots and age spots. Hydroquinone is an FDA approved skin medicine and has been safely used in dermatology for over many years. Tretinoin is a derivative of Vitamin A and works by increasing skin cell turnover, improving skin cell renewal and increasing collagen production. Tretinoin is the holy grail of anti-ageing and is a powerful tool in skin cell repair and returning the skin to health. NuDerm is a prescription-only skin medicine that can only be prescribed by a medical professional such as a Doctor. It is important that your clinician understands your specific skin care needs so that they can help guide you through the programme. Here at The Skin Clinic Sevenoaks Dr Ward is the Obagi expert and does all the Obagi skin care prescribing. You will be invited for regular reviews when on the Obagi NuDerm programme to ensure that results are achieved and that you have appropriate medical supervision.
How long does the treatment last?
A skin cell life cycle is approximately 6 weeks. The NuDerm standard programme lasts 18 weeks or 3 skin cell cycles. The protocol may be changed by your clinician and tailored to suit your specific skin care needs.
In order for you to transform your skin and take it back to skin health, your skin needs to go through active change. The main difficulties that people on the NuDerm programme face are temporary dryness, peeling and mild irritation. These are normal side effects and are necessary if you wish to see your skin change. You will be guided through these stages closely and supported by Dr Ward and her medical team who will be on hand to advise you. These side effects commonly subside after the first skin cell cycle (approximately 6 weeks) and by week 6 most people will have noticed some very obvious and exciting changes in their skin. Excess pigment starts to fade by week 6 and the new skin starts to look visibly refreshed and repaired.
How long do I need to do the NuDerm programme for?
Everyone is different but the standard length of time on NuDerm is 3 skin cycles or 18 weeks. In this time you will see visible improvements in your skin tone, skin laxity and skin condition.
Obagi NuDerm has been designed as an 18 week programme. After finishing the treatment a maintenance programme can be specifically tailored to suit your on going anti-aging needs.
