Microdermabrasion

microdermabrasionDiamond microdermabrasion involves passing a diamond tip over the skin to exfoliate and stimulate the skin. Microdermabrasion is a mild treatment that removes cellular debris from the surface of the skin, stimulates the circulation and encourages a stronger more healthy skin. Traditionally microdermabrasion is done using crystals but here at The Skin Clinic we use a diamond microdermabrasion machine to get the best results for your skin.

What can I expect?

Your treatment will take approximately 20-30 minutes. The diamond tips are used to abrade the skin and suction is used to remove dead skin cells. The treatment is not painful and you can return to normal activities immediately after your treatment. Your skin may be slightly red and feel a little tight after your treatment but this will settle down in a few hours. The risk of pigmentation from this procedure is small and usually settles within the first month and the risk of scarring is very small. Your clinician will take a full medical history and ensure your skin is suitable for treatment prior to any treatment.

Who should avoid treatments?

Microdermabrasion is not suitable for hyperpigmented skin or those with broken veins. Anyone with active coldsores/herpes infection should avoid treatment until resolved.

What results can I expect?

Results are subtle with microdermabrasion. You can expect your skin to feel revived and refreshed but will need a course of treatments to really benefit from the procedure. Treatments can be done weekly during a course of treatments and then maintained every few months for best results.
