Excessive Sweating Treatment
Botulinum toxin injections can be used to inactivate overactive sweat glands in the armpit for individuals who have a problem with excessive sweating. This condition is called hyperhydrosis and botulinums toxin injections are one of the most effective treatments currently available for this condition. People often feel embarrassed and distressed by this problem and resort to wearing only dark clothes to conceal the problem. For these patients botulinum injections can have an enormous impact on their quality of life and improve self-esteem and confidence.
Who is suitable for treatment?
Before you have botulinum treatment for excessive sweating it is a good idea to see your Gp and exclude any medical problem that can cause excessive sweating such as thyroid gland dysfunction. Your Gp may choose to do some blood tests to help exclude a medical cause. If no cause is found then your Gp may advise you to proceed with the injections injections. Dr Ward and her medical team can advise you further.
Treatments for excessive sweating can last up to 6-9 months. Re-treatment will be necessary to maintain results.
Very small needles are used in this procedure so that discomfort is kept to a minimum.
Treatment can take between 15 and 30 minutes. After treatment you can carry on with your daily activities. We ask that you do not use deodorants for the first 24 hours after treatment.
Botulinum treatments are not instant and can take up to two weeks to have an effect. We will review you at two weeks to see if the desired effect has been achieved.
