Dermaroller Treatments™

dermarollerGenuine Dermaroller Therapy is a medical device designed to help reduce acne scars, sun damage, fine lines and wrinkles and stretch marks. Genuine Dermaroller Therapy has become an extremely popular treatment and is getting excellent results here at The Skin Clinic. The Dermaroller is an advanced micro-medical needling system that stimulates the skin to regenerate and rejuvenate giving you younger, healthier, glowing skin.

The procedure involves micro-needling the skin in such a way as to cause thousands of little micro-traumas to the skins surface. This micro-trauma increases the blood supply to the skin and stimulates the body’s own healing mechanism which stimulates collagen formation and rejuvenation of the skin. Visible and sometimes dramatic improvements are seen after Genuine Dermaroller treatment, hence its growing popularity. The dermaroller can be used on the face and other parts of the body and can help improve surface texture and suppleness. Dermaroller can be used in conjunction with Obagi Nu-derm skin care system for conditions such as acne scarring and fine lines and wrinkles with excellent results. What can I expect?

A dermaroller treatment takes approximately 30 minutes. The procedure is slightly uncomfortable but we try to minimize any discomfort by applying an anesthetic cream. Most clients find that although the procedure is not particularly pleasant the results are well worth it.

Your skin may be red and appear irritated directly after the procedure. This will settle down within a few days. You should be able to go about your normal daily activities the day after treatment. For best results we recommend a course of three treatments 6 weeks apart to maximize collagen regrowth. Results are not immediate with the dermaroller but they may be long lasting as increased collagen levels help volumise and rejuvenate the skin. For stubborn acne and acne scarring your treatments may need to be extended to 5-6 treatments but your clinician will advise you further.

Who should avoid having treatments?

Anyone with a current skin infection or an active dermatological problem such severe eczema/dermatitis should avoid Dermaroller treatments until things have settled down. Your clinician can advise you further regarding contraindications to treatment.

How does Genuine Dermaroller treatment compare with laser skin rejuvenation?

Dermaroller therapy and laser skin resurfacing both aim to increase collagen production in the skin. The benefit of Genuine Dermaroller Therapy is that it carries less risk than laser skin resurfacing, especially in darker skin types that can hyperpigment in response to the trauma of laser. Genuine Dermaroller therapy can be used on all skin types. In addition, there is less down time after Genuine Dermaroller treatments and the treatments cost significantly less than laser sessions. Both treatments get significant results in trials. Dermaroller therapy or medical micro-needling represents an exciting new area in cosmetic medicine where we are able to create de novo synthesis of collagen hence the term Collagen Induction Therapy.
